I should be able to answer for the top-end 15" by the end of next week.

My company offers 2-year, interest-free loans for employees to purchase personal computers. It works out awfully nice if you can deal with a 2-year upgrade cycle. :) |

It turns out my loan request was approved. Just got back from the Apple store with a new 15" 2.8 GHz MBP. Woo-hoo! I'm just starting to transfer everything over to the new machine. I should be able to get some EVE time in later tonight.
Originally by: Zedic I'm wondering about this too. Previous advice here suggested getting two batteries, one for gaming and one for regular computing. Since that's not an option now, I'm wondering how gaming on the new MBPs will effect the battery life?
In terms of heat affecting long term battery life?

I finally had a chance to get some playtime in. There's not a lot of hard numbers in this post, but the performance of EVE on the recently released MacBook Pros is simply stellar.
For reference, I'm upgrading from a June 2008 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM and an Nvidia 8600M GT with 256MB of VRAM. The new system is the current top-end standard configuration 15" MacBook Pro. I usually run EVE fullscreen with bloom off; all other graphics settings at their highest quality; and interval set to 1.
The integrated 9400M chip performs exceptionally, arguably better than the discrete graphics on my previous machine. There is a slight degradation in quality (textures lose their specular), but I'm willing to let that go seeing as the chip could pump out 30 fps in stations; 60 fps spinning my ship in space; and 30 fps in warp. The performance is so good on the 9400M that, at first, I forgot that this beasty wasn't even using it's real graphics card.
Switching over to the 9600M GT requires a logout to take effect. Again, performance is impressive. 30-35 fps in station; 60 fps in space; and 60 fps in warp. For giggles I warped to the nearest sun. The effects on the star used to drop my framerate down into the 10-15 fps range. No more. 60 fps. I'm sure that if I reset the interval to immediate, I could push far more out of the chip. I'm already quite pleased with the performance and don't see any reason to push the chip a bit harder in exchange for more heat.
Heat you say? Yes heat: 9400M: 70C CPU, 60C GPU 9600m GT: 75C CPU, 78 GPU
If anyone was considering the new hardware, just go buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Mac native client. Performance on Windows would probably be even better, but there may still be some problems with drivers and the fans.
EDIT: Stupid forum
